The elephant alarm fence by Nature & Wildlife Association

Based on a recent project by Green Guard Nature Organization in Assam/India, NWA has designed and implemented a low cost early warning system in Wang Mi on the edge of Khao Yai National Park/Thailand in cooperation with Freeland Foundation.

The fence is intended to warn villagers in the Human Elephant Conflict zone when elephants enter farmland.

Set up and test.

Passing elephants will pull the string and set off the alarm , a 130 Db loud sound. Alerted villagers will then chase the elephants back. Over time elephants will identify the string and sound with humans chasing them away, so they will avoid the strings.

In this video, you can see  the system in action!
